The Jamaica Plain Branch opened in July 24, 1911 in a building in the Prairie School style, and an addition was added in 1936. A renovation designed by Utile, Inc. Architecture and Planning opened in spring 2017 and includes a new entry visible from South Street, a new interior reading lounge and computer bar, dedicated spaces for children, tweens, teens, and adults, a multi-purpose room, an exterior reading terrace along Sedgwick Street, and comprehensive building upgrades to meet ADA requirements. Guided tours led by Utile at 3:30pm on Saturday June 3.
